परिचय
Tap dance एक ऐसा dance form है जो energy और enthusiasm से भरपूर है। इसमें dancers अपने shoes की metal plates से ज़मीन पर rhythmic sounds create करते हैं। Shoes के heels और toes पर लगी metal plates ही tap dance shoes को unique बनाती हैं। यह dance form 19वीं सदी के middle से evolve होना शुरू हुई और तब से jazz tap, Broadway tap, Soft Shoe और Buck and Wing जैसे कई styles develop हो चुके हैं।
Tap dance की history में बहुत से talented dancers ने अपनी अमिट छाप छोड़ी है। कुछ अब हमारे बीच नहीं रहे, कुछ आज भी stage पर perform कर रहे हैं। आइए जानते हैं इन legendary dancers के बारे में।
Fred Astaire (फ्रेड एस्टेयर)
Fred Astaire का जन्म 1899 में हुआ था और 1987 में उनका निधन हो गया। Hollywood उन्हें अपने सबसे प्यारे musical stars में से एक मानता था। उन्होंने कई American films में काम किया, अक्सर Ginger Rogers के साथ, और एक extraordinary tap dancer के रूप में जाने गए। उनकी हर film में उनकी tap dancing skills का शानदार display दिखता था।
Astaire सिर्फ एक brilliant dancer ही नहीं बल्कि एक charming performer भी थे जिन्हें audiences बेहद प्यार करती थीं। उनका elegant style और natural sense of rhythm उनके बाद आने वाले हर tap dancer के लिए एक बहुत ऊंचा benchmark बन गया।
Howard Sandman Sims
Sandman Sims का जन्म 1917 में हुआ और 2003 में उनका निधन हुआ। वे अपनी loud tapping style और sand पर dance करने की unique technique के लिए famous थे, इसीलिए उनका nickname Sandman पड़ा।
Arkansas में पैदा हुए Sims ने 3 साल की उम्र में tap dance शुरू कर दिया था। उनका कहना था कि rhythm उनके लिए natural है। बचपन में वे अपने shoes के toes इतने घिस देते थे कि उनकी मां को shoes पर metal लगाना पड़ता था। 1930s में वे boxer भी बने, लेकिन boxing में हाथ चोटिल होने के बाद उन्होंने अपने पैरों की movements और ज़्यादा creative बना लीं। Tap dance competitions में वे कभी नहीं हारे।
Gregory Hines
Gregory Hines का जन्म 1946 में New York City में हुआ और 2003 में cancer से उनका निधन हो गया। उनकी मां ने उन्हें बचपन से ही tap dance सीखने के लिए encourage किया। 5 साल की उम्र से वे अपने भाइयों के साथ theatre में perform करने लगे, जिसमें Broadway भी शामिल था।
बाद में California shift होकर उन्होंने कई films और TV shows में काम किया। Hines को traditional tap dance और modern elements को blend करने में सबसे skilled माना जाता है। उन्होंने tap dance को wider audience तक पहुंचाया।
Savion Glover
अगर किसी एक person ने tap dance को completely new level पर ले जाया है, तो वो Savion Glover हैं। बचपन से ही उन्होंने amazing talent दिखाया और teenage में Broadway पर establish हो गए। उनका style traditional tap और hip-hop rhythms का fusion है, जिसे hitting कहा जाता है, जो power और speed पर focus करता है। Broadway shows की success से उन्होंने tap dance को फिर से mainstream culture में ला दिया।
Bill Bojangles Robinson
Bill Robinson का जन्म 1878 में हुआ और वे tap dance के earliest legends में से एक हैं। वे अपनी staircase dance के लिए world famous हैं, जिसमें वे stairs पर tap dance करते थे। Racial segregation के दौर में उन्होंने कई barriers तोड़े और Hollywood mainstream films में important role पाने वाले पहले African American tap dancer बने। उनका style elegant और effortless लगता था लेकिन technically बेहद advanced था।
Tap Dance की विरासत
Street performances से Broadway stages तक और modern fusion innovations तक, tap dance ने लगभग दो सदियों का सफ़र तय किया है। इन सभी महान dancers की एक common बात यह है कि उन्होंने tap dance को सिर्फ एक skill नहीं बल्कि self-expression और cultural heritage का माध्यम माना। हर generation के dancers के dedication और innovation ने इस unique art form को आज भी जीवंत रखा है।
